Korean Tea Ceremony (Da-Rae)

Well, time to say goodbye to Boseong and head back to Seoul. A last view from the hotel room and off we go.

On the way back, we picked up our self-made pottery in Icheon. I am not quite sure though, if the tea bowl will make it back to Canada in one piece (it's not fully dried).

In Seoul, we were introduced to the traditional Korean tea ceremony. It is less formal than the Japanese tea ceremony, and more formal than the Chinese tea ceremony. Korean traditions have evidently been influenced significantly by both cultures and it is evident throughout the country. Jang (aka Kara), from the International Tea Culture Foundation in Korea was so kind to show us the ins and outs of the ceremony. We were lucky that she could make the time, since they just moved into a new location with the grand opening coming up in May.

After our stop at the foundation, we went to "Templestay" for another tea ceremony. This time, we could practice it ourselves. One difference to the Japanese tea ceremony which uses Matcha is, that you can use any tea in the Korean tea ceremony. Another difference is that you look away from your guest when drinking the tea (you turn away in a 45 degree angle).
